Celebrating 15 Years of Innovation!
Welcome to the first-ever Public Toronto Open Data Awards!
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Toronto’s Open Data program, we’re launching an awards program to honour those who use open data to spark ideas, address civic issues, or simply make City data more accessible. We’re recognizing projects from both public users and City staff that showcase the power of open data to make a difference in our community.
Who Can Enter?
Whether you’re a journalist, researcher, volunteer, data enthusiast, City employee, student, or community organizer, this is your chance to be recognized! Submit your own project or nominate someone else’s work that uses Toronto’s Open Data in a meaningful way.
How It Works
- Submissions – Open from November 1 – 30. Use our submission form to enter a project or nominate someone else.
- Judging – In December, a panel of community leaders and open data champions will review the top submissions.
- Awards – Top projects will be awarded and showcased on our new Toronto Open Data Gallery page, launching in January 2025.
- Honorable Mentions – If your project stands out but doesn’t win, we’ll give it an honorary mention and feature it alongside the top entries.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for projects that hit some (but not necessarily all) of the following points:
- Clarity and Impact – Does it help users understand a civic issue?
- Creativity and Innovation – Is it a fresh approach?
- Design and Presentation – Is it visually engaging?
- Educational Value – Does it offer insights or tutorials?
- Community Engagement – Does it benefit Toronto’s community?
Spread the Word!
Help us make this celebration big! Nominate a project, submit your own, or share with anyone who’s passionate about open data and improving our City.
